Title: Tutorial on Dynamic Geometry
Author: Jen-chung Chuan
Affiliation: Department of Mathematics, National Tsing Hua University,
Taiwan
Abstract
The software Geometer's Sketchpad provides an environment suitable to perform
experiments in dynamic geometry. In this tutorial we are to explore:
-
the creation of epicycloids and hypocycloids
-
the link-gear mechanism for tracing the cardioid
-
the gear wheel tooth profiles and the coupling of trochoids
The workshop is to be conducted in a computer laboratory equipped with
Windows 95. The additional web browser Netscape is desirable but not essential
to the workshop. The class is open to everyone and the number of students
is limited to 30. As for the preparation for the tutorial, please think
of this problem: can these pictures be made into an animation?
